MANGONUI BANQUET. / ;;L . PRESENTATION TO MR ELLIS. A banquet wasi given to Mr Stan Ellis, of Whangaroa, by the Mangonui Swordfish Club, at Mangonui, on Friday evening, when he was presented with the Long Cup, donated by Mr A. F. Long, of Kaingaroa, for the heaviest fish caught on rod and reel. The president, Mr A. D. Clemett, stated, that it gave him great pleasure to make the presentation to Mr Ellis. In the absence of any previous -catches and the lack of visiting fishermen, the club had been practically defunct, and! the cup had gone begging. The club appreciated the efforts of Mr Ellis in making a special trip to exploit the Mangonui waters, and- were glad that his first attempt was rewarded :by .two good, catches, thus demonstrating that gamefish were to be found in Doubtless Bay. Mr J. T. B. Taaffe, Kaitaia, also a keen angler, who had tried out these; waters once or twice unsuccessfully, also congratulated Mr Ellis upon his siiccess. Visitors representing various interests including fishing clubs, were present from Kaitaia and Whangaroa.
