SEPARATE ASSOCIATION?
NORTH AUCKLAND HOCKEY. A PROPOSAL, A suggestion hag been made that a separate hockey association to embrace Whangarei and Dargaville and the district stretching to the North, should be formed. Mention of this was made in Auckland during Country Week, at a meeting of managers, when it was stated! that there were sufficient teams in the district to allow of a separate organisation being formed. At present, the Whangarei association is affiliated with Auckland. The Dargaville ladies’ teams are affiliated with Auckland, but not the men. The proposal is still only in the melting pot and no definite move has been made. Should a separate association be formed, it has been suggested that it should be known as the North Auckland Association, and endeavours would be made to get centres further North to form teams. The question ol school teams is also likely to be considered. The whole proposal has considerable merit, and there is no doubt that a North Auckland .association would further consolidate the position of the game in the North,, by creating greater interest and assisting in the bringing on of younger players to fill the gaps caused by those who retire year by year. -
