“WE ONLY WANT PEACE”
GERMANS IN FRANCE. EX-SERVICEMEN FOREGATHER. (Received 11.30 a.m.) LYONS, July 1. “One swallow does not make a summer, but it requires courage to be the first swallow,” said M. Herriot, Mayor of Lyons, welcoming the first German ex-servicemen to visit France since the War. Herr von Batin, leader of the party of 60, said: “If we seem clumsy and rough in our methods, please believe me when I say that we only want 'peace/' M. Herriot: “If our countries try again to tear each other to pieces it will mean the deluge.”
