KAIKOHE

j DETERMINED SHOOTISTS. I A Kaikohe shooting enthusiast, with a companion, was out on a trip in the Taheke district over the week-end. A brace or two of nice duck were noticed hovering over a fairly large stretch of water, which had collected as a result of the recent floods. Two birds were duly brought to earth, or rather to water. Having no retriever, the shootists were faced with the problem of how the booty was- to be recovered, as the water was deep. Undaunted. however, the hardiest of the two stripped off, and swam out and secured the birds. The sport must have its fascination when one considers how simple it is to proceed to the hen-house and procure a dish, practically as alluring, without having to undergo such an ordeal.
