TROLLEY BUSES

NEW PLYMOUTH PROPOSAL. ; , . REPLACEMENT OP TRAMS. [Per Press Association. — Copyright.] NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day. A proposal that the New Plymouth tramways should be replaced by trolley buses was placed before the Borough Council last night by Mr F. S. Grayling. The matter was .referred to the Tramways Committee for investigation. Mr Grayling said that tramways were being recognised as being out of date all over the world. Though the New Plymouth system had given good service, the streets and the tram tracks in the near future would require an expensive and costly overhaul. He thought that the time was appropriate the consideration of the installation of trolley buses. Mr Stainton, another member of the council, indicated that the cost of the proposed change would be about £50,000. He stated that the alteration could be carried out in sections. Mr Grayling urged that the change would result in a substantial economy.
