LATE MR W. H. LANE
VOTE OF SYMPATHY,
DISTRICT HIGHWAYS COUNCIL,
A vote of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr W. H. Lane, of Whangaroa, was passed by the No. 1 District Highways Council yesterday. Eulogistic reference was made to Mr Lane, who was a member of the council, for five years. Mr Lane was only 51 years of age, but had been in ill-health for some time before his death. He was a member of the well-known Totara North family, and for many years was engaged in saw-milling and boat-build-ing. After managing the Auckland branch of the firm with his brother for a number of years, he returned to Totara North and took up dairy farming. In 1918 he was elected chairman of directors of the Whangaroa Cooperative Dairy Company, Ltd., and held that position until his death. Mr Lane was keenly interested in local body affairs, and up to April, when he retired, he had been six years chairman of the Whangaroa County Council and Harbour Board. He was also a member of the Whangaroa Hospital Board.
