ROPED ARENA

WELTERWEIGHT TITLE. MUDGWAY DEFEATS STIRLING. [Per Press Association. — Copyright .l CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The professional welterweight boxipg champion of New Zealand, Don Stirling, of Oamaru, lost his title last

night to N. Mudgway, of Waihi, on points, in a fifteen rounds bout. The decision, although popular with the spectators, was surprising to some. Both boxers were very fit, fast and clever.

After the first few rounds Stirling did most, of the leading and scored frequently with heavy rights. Mudgway was therefore mostly on the defensive, and showed excellent skill and tactics.
