Requiring 259 to save an innings defeat by the South African cricketers, Glamorgan had lost 9 wickets for 245 when rain fell at the luncheon adjournment. The game was abandoned as a draw without further play. Glamorgan had lost four wickets for 10 when stumps were drawn on Monday. After three more wickets had fallen rapidly this morning, Smart was responsible for a remarkable recovery, by bold and spectacular hitting. I , ■
Hughes, playing for the first time for Glamorgan, assisted Smart in a brilliant display, the pair adding 109 in 45 minutes.
Smart and Hughes broke Glamorgan’s last wicket record, the partnership putting on 131 runs in 60 minutes. Smart reached the century in 95 minutes, and hit sixes.
