Further earthquake shocks continue to be felt daily at Quetta. Two severe ones occurred at the week-end, one almost as bad as the original shock on May 31. More than 20,000 people have been evacuated since June 1, the majority of whom belong to the Sind and the Punjab. Between June 1 and June 7 a total of 14,000 telegrams reached Quetta, and more than 3000 of them are still undelivered to the addressees, who are believed to have perished. The estimated damage to Govern- , ment and military buildings and to railway properties is nearly £2,000,000. The damage to private property is incalculable. Atnong miraculous escapes reported is that of an Indian woman who was dug out of the ruins of her home two days after the big earthquake. She had given birth y to a child and both! were well. The Government- is not likely to decide for some time whether to have Quetta x’ebuilt on an earthquakeproof basis or .to choose a fresh site for a new city.
