TAURAROA

SUNDAY SCHOOL AFTERNOON. On Saturday afternoon the Sunday School children and their mothers and friends assembled at the hall to make a sux'prise presentation, to Mr and Mrs Weir, who have been Sunday School teachers and social workers for many years, and have had to give it up on account of failing health. After the children had enjoyed games and rendered, items, and a dainty afternoon tea had been partaken of, Mr Sands spoke on behalf of the children and parents, saying it was with great pleasure he was asking Mr and Mrs' Weir to accept a small gift as a token of the very high esteem in which they are held, and in appreciation- of their good work. Mrs Weir has taught Sunday School, ever a period of 4Q years at Mata. Springfield, and Mangapai, and a long while at Tauraroa; and Mr Weir has also taught for seven years. Miss Gwen Purdon, one of the senior pupils attending when Mrs Weir was teaching, presented the guests with a travelling rug, and Shirley Woolhouse, a tiny pupil, presented Mrs Weir with a beautiful bouquet cf violets and mair denhair fern.

Mr and Mrs Weir thanked the wellwishers, saying that they were quite taken by surprise, as they did not expect any reward for their work, which had been a real pleasure to them. They considered it a pleasant duty to teach the children. “For They are Jolly Good Fellows” was heartily sung.
