POINT OF HONOUR
DUEL WITH SABRES. HUNGARIAN POLITICIANS, ANOTHER CHALLENGE SENT. (Received 9 a.m.) BUDAPEST, June 8. The Premier of Hungary, General Gomboes, was challenged last week to a duel-by an Opposition deputy, Dr. Eckhardt, following an alleged revelation that General Gomboes had /provided information which was the subject of a previous quarrel between Dr. Eckhardt and the former Premier, Count Bethlen.
Subsequently General Gomboes and Dr. Eckhardt settled their quarrel without a duel, but this has only precipitated another duel and threatens a third.
Dr., Eckhardt today fought, with light cavalry sabres, a Government deputy named Szalay. Each was wounded 10. times, then they desisted from sheer exhaustion. General Gomboes had earlier appeased Dr. Eckhardt by saying that Count Bethlen misquoted him. The latter has pow sept his seconds to, General Gomboes. . ' ■ Admission of error. ENCOUNTER AVOIDED. (Received 9 a.m.) LONDON, June 8. The Budapest correspondent of the “Daily Mail” states that General Gomboes, contrary to expectations, admitted a misunderstanding with Dr Eckhardt, and Count Bethlen accepted the explanation, thus obviating threatened duel. - '
