FRENCH CHAMPIONSHIPS FOURTH ROUND PERRY DEFEATS TURNBULL (Received 10 a.m.). PARIS, May 30. The remaining fourth-round matches in the men’s sngles of the French lawn tennis championships resulted: • Crawford defeated Caska, 6—3, 9—7, 6—l; McGrath defeated Legeay, 6—l, 4_6, 6—o, 7—5; Boussus defeated Hopman, 2—6, 5—7, 6—l, 6—2, 6—o; Perry defeated Turnbull, 6 —3. 6 —3, 6—3; Bernard defeated Stefani, 6—3, 9 —7, 6—3; Austin defeated A. Merlin, 6—o, 6_l, 6—4. Perry beat Turnbull with a good deal in reserve, and manoeuvred the Australian out of position. Turnbull’s ground strokes wilted under the strain of a severe attack. Hopman’s clever .lobbing worried Boussus. High-class tennis was seen in this match, Hcpman relaxed, in the third set, and after the interval his game went to pieces, whereas the confidence of Boussus increased. Crawford produced his best driving to beat Caska. McGrath wore his opponent down by long driving and volleying duels. Austin displayed excellent form, defeating Merlin with the loss of only live games.. NEW'ZEALAND TITLES. ANDREWS AND STEDMAN. AVAILABLE NEXT SEASON. [Per Press Association. — Copyright 3 WELLINGTON, This Day. It was stated at the quarterly meeting of the New Zealand Tennis Council that both E. D. Andrews and A. Stedman, New Zealand Davis Cup players, would be in the Dominion for next season’s New Zealand championships. A report showed a profit of £6O on last year’s championship, after allowing £47 10/ for expenses for F. J. Perry and £56 17/1 on account of Kay and Ewin, of Australia. The question of sending a team to Australia next season was deferred.
