KAIKOHE
j i SATURDAY’S FOOTBALL, I Kaikohe-Kerikeri. —Kerikeri shaped very well against Kaikohe in the match jat Kerikeri. On the running of the { team to date it was quite expected that Kaikohe would have won by a greater margin. The winning try was secured by Martin for Kaikohe, and the game ended Kaikohe 3,' Kerikeri 0. Mr S. Sutherland was the referee. Ohaeawai-Otiria.—A good hard game eventuated between Ohaeawai and Otiria at Otiria. The superiority of Ohaeawai’s backs accounted for Otiria’s defeat. Ohaeawai’s- total was made up of scores by J- Ripito J• Beasley and Ned Ripia (2); a successful penalty kick by J. Edmonds; and C. j Kauwhata potted from a drop-kick. I Wharerau and Cherrington each land- | ed a free kick for Otiria, and the home • team’s final points were completed j with a try by f. Brown. Mr R. Somi erville was referee. I Mataraua-Oromohoe.—There was a 1 very fast forward game between Matai raua and Oromohoe at Mataraua. The ) teams were evenly matched’. As both i are newcomers to the competition, and neither has figured' prominently so far, both sides probably appreciated not having to play a defensive -game. Mataraua’s first try by P. Edmonds was converted, but the kick for their other try, secured by C. Herewini, was unsuccessful. T. Penney’s converted try, with a good kick by C. Whitely and an unconverted try by W. Tangarda, made up Oromohoe’s total. The final score was Mataraua 8, Oromohoe 8. Mr A. McFarlane controlled the match. Kaikche-Te Reinga.—A record crowd turned out to see the match between the Kaikohe and Te Reinga juniors, at the Kaikohe showground. From, start to finish, the game was- fast and open, and the final in the competition will probably be fought out between these two teams. Neither so far has been defeated, and Saturday’s match did not alter the position. Tuhi Marsh secured the first try for Kaikohe, which was' unconverted, and Te Reinga landed their first from a forward rush. This try was also unconverted. After halftime, with both teams even in points, the play did not let up for a minute. The Kaikohe backs, however, were handling much better. Kaikohe’s opportunity came from a penalty right in front of the posts. The ball went over, and the score became: Kaikohe 6, Te Reinga 3, Kaikohe getting the superiority as the result of an absolute gift. The Maori boys worked very hard and shortly before the game ended were successful in crossing Kaikohe’s line, much to the delight of their supporters, who had been bar- ! racking all through the match with great gusto. Several players took the count during the match, but fortunately were able to continue. The crowd all agreed that it was the snappiest game seen in Kaikohe this season. The final score was: Kaikohe 6, Te Reinga 6. Mr C. Denize was referee.
