A ROUSING FIGHT
PETERSEN v. COOK. In describing the 15-round fight in which Jack Petersen retained his British and British Empire heavyweight boxing titles against George : Cook, of Australia, a few weeks ago, an English paper says that Cook put up a gallant fight, but Petersen always looked the more likely to win. In the first round Petersen went straight in with a left and pushed Cook against the ropes; after a clinch Petersen sent the Australian down for a count of two with a fierce right and then ‘scored with several uppercuts, boxing cooly, and finding little diffir culty in scoring with punches to the ■ face. Cook was outpunched and outgeneralled. In the second round ' Cook covered up and sought an opening, but the champion was not to be lured into trouble and slipped away arid scored With straight lefts. In the . third round Petersen attacked immediately, but Cook drove him against the ropes, scored with two , heaVy blows to the body, and then ducked away cleverly from a left. In ' the close-quarter fighting Cook did a - tremendous amount of work, several times scoring with damaging punches. Petersen relied a lot on his straight left and rarely tried his right hand; ’ he missed badly when Cook ducked Cleverly; from" . a right swing. The pair roused the Spectators in the fifth round, standing at arm’s length and exchanging smashing punches with a will. Petersen outpointed his man in ; some; long-range fighting, though Cook , tried every move to score with his V hooks. Cook, full of pluck, went into ' his man and stood his ground in some hard-hitting, but the champion scared point after point with his left. In the ■■. tenth round .Petersen, after feinting ; with the left, drove in a right which ;; sent Cook sprawling against the ropes; he was now winning easily in * spite of Cook’s courage.
