FATAL INJURIES
CHILD STRUCK BY CAR BOTH LEGS FRACTURED [Special to “Northern Advocate.”} AUCKLAND, This Day. Fatal injuries were received’ by Betty Ryall, the seven-year-old daughter of Mr. G. Ryall, of Dairy Flat, when -.he was struck by a motor car near ler home yesterday evening. The child, accompanied by a playlate ran on to the road just as a notor car, driven by Mr. L. Lees, of Crescent Road, Epsom, approached, coming in the direction of Auckland, .bout 7 p.m. The other child ran back, iut Betty Ryall ran on and was struck i >y the car.
Mr. Lees carried the injured child ;o her home and telephoned Dr. Keith T. Holdgate, of Birkenhead, a St. John ambulance and the police. It was found that she was suffering from ’ractures of both legs. Her immediate removal to the hospital was ordered. Death occurred at 7.20 this morning. Mr. Lees said this morning that he was driving towards Auckland and when passing through Dairy Flat two children ran out on to the road from an obscured gateway. One ran back on seeing the car, but the other continued across the road. “I attempted to avoid the child by swerving, and applied the brakes,” said Mr. Lees. “Measurements were taken which show from the point I swerved from the point where the impact occurred ear the distance was 16 yards. From the point where t he impact occurred to the point where the car was brought to a standstill the distance was eight yards.”
