QUITE FIT AGAIN

The Duke of Gloucester has now completely recovered from the injury to'his foot, and he was able to wear riding boots for his morning outing in the saddle across country adjacent to the Chateau yesterday. During the course of his ride he had a couple of gallops as a preliminary to the brief training he will undertake at Hunterville today in preparation for his race in the Ladies’ Bracelet at the Marton races tomorrow.

His departure for Mr T. A. Duncan’s estate at Hunterville is timed for 3.30 this afternoon. He stays tonight at Mr Duncan’s homesteadand proceeds to the Marton races tomorrow morning.

Although rain has fallen in surrounding districts, the weather, was fine at each place the duke visited. Portable Teleprinter.

Working at the rate of 66 words a minute, a highly-sensitive portable teleprinter set, installed, at The Chateau, promptly and effectively, kept the outside world apprised of the movements of the Duke of Gloucester at the National Park, It transmitted all other messages in connection with the Royal visit to the mountain playground. The machine worked overtime last night, and met every requirement. Direct telephone communication with apy outside exchange was also available. An emergency system was superimposed on the existing Chateau and other 'circuits to Hamilton, without interfering with the normal facilities.

GALL AT CAMBRIDGE. A ROUSING WELCOME. [Per Press Association. — Copyright. 3 CAMBRIDGE, This Day. The Royal train was given a rousing welcome at Cambridge on Saturday. In replying to the civic address the Duke of Gloucester said: “1 hope my visit will serve as a link between this town and the Homeland, as I was educated at Cambridge University and know many New Zealanders who have also received their education there. I thank you for your good wishes and hope that you will all prosper in delightful surrounding of this Cambridge.” ■ Vv

The Duke attended the polo con* tests in Cambridge, but did not play. Captain Curtis and Lieutenant Schreiber, of his staff, took the field. Wearing an open-necked shirt and corduroy trousers, His Royal Highness later went for a quiet ride in the country lanes, in company with Captain J. C. Tweedie, A.D.C. to the Governor-General.

His Royal Highness was accorded an ovation by the crowd on his return to the polo course after an hour’s riding. The people were greatly impressed by his free and easy, i manner and his cheery hand waves and smiling acknowledgments. He left at 5 p.m. by motor for Ohaupo to join the Royal train for National Park.

[Per Press Association. — Copyright. ] THE CHATEAU, This Day. \ The public are reminded that the' Duke of Gloucester is not accepting invitations to autograph during his New Zealand tour. Before the tour was undertaken it was realised that compliance with the wishes of autograph hunters was practically a physical impossibility, since the invitations would soar into hundreds. Accordingly, it was decided at the outset that it was not practicable to consider any autograph applications.

During the progress through the King Country the train made stops at Te Kuiti and Taumarunui. At Te Kuiti a crowd gathered near the station and gave the Duke a warm welcome.

At Taumarunui one thousand people were waiting at the station, children being prominent. The duke left the train and acknowledged the greetings of the crowd as he walked along the platform. On arrival at the National Park station the Duke and his party were motored to the Chateau, where the temperature was delightfully cool after a day spent in the Waikato. The Duke was in the open air most of the time yesterday and enjoyed trout fishing in the afternoon at Tckaanu, where he took four fish. Today it was. announced that the Duke would definitely ride Mr. C. L. Bull’s Black Man with a weight of 13.2 in the Ladies’ Bracelet at the Marton races to-morrow. A new set of colours has been chosen for His Royal Highness, these being emerald green, with a gold sash and an emerald green cap.

Captain Arthur Curtis, the Duke’s private secretary, will have a mount on Tranquility, owned by the president of the club, Mr. H. J, D. McManaway. Tranquility’s colours are light blue, with canary sleeves. Today the Duke was up at 6 a.m. and resumed fishing at the Tokaanu delta. He returned to the Chateau shortly before noon to have a short rest before leaving for Mr. Duncan’s estate at Hunterville.
