MANGONUI

A farewell social and dance was given to Mr A. J. Joy, of the Post and Telegraph staff, in McKay’s Hall, Mangonui, on Monday evening. Mr Joy has been transferred to Kaikohe, and will take up duty at his new station after his annual vacation, which will be spent in Auckland. Mr A. D. Clemett, president of the Mangonui and District Civic League, in . making a presentation of a rug, said i the esteem in which the guest of the J evening was held was evidenced by j the large patronage accorded the function. Mr Joy had become popular i during his four years’ residence in j Mangonui. He was sure he was voicing the sentiments of all those present when he said that general and deep j regi’et was felt at Mr Joy’s departure, j Mr Joy said that he was sorry to be moving on, as his stay in Mangonui had been vei’y pleasant. He appreciated very much Mr Clemett’s reference to his ability to serve the best interests of the department and public. A pleasant evening was spent in j dancing. Mr J. B. Kennedy’s two j items, “Haerc Tonu” and “Jock o’! Hazeldenc” were well received, as; were also Mr L. Brown’s humorous j sketches. j Personal. | Mr L. J. Roberts, of the Post Office staff, returned on Monday evening after spending his annual leave in Auckland and Kerikeri. Miss Merle Palmer, of the nursing staff of the Auckland Hospital, is the guest of Mrs Stan Harris, Taipa.
