OVER TWO CENTURIES. SURPRISE IN HAWKE’S BAY. [Per Press Association.—Copyright.! HASTINGS, This Day. A dividend of over two centuries formed a sensational feature of the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club’s meeting at Hastings on Saturday. The horse was Greenore, who was having his first start in a race in the Trial Stakes, which he won easily after making a good run in the straight. A three-year-old chestnut gelding by Arausio from New Bliss, Greenore is owned by Mr J, Mills, a kell-known rifle shot. He was the rank outsider of the field of eleven.

The totalisator handled £5,528 for seven races, against £5,732 for eight races last year. Results:—

Trial Stakes, of 60 sovs; weight, 8.0; five furlongs and a half.—(ll-11) Greenore (J, Walsh), 1; (2-2) The Grasper (P. Atkins), 2; (1-1) Thane, (H. Young). 3. Also started: (7-10) Whadden Chase, (2-2) Mercian, Lady, (4-4) Kentucky Home, (10-8) Morning Quest, (6-6) Black Magic, (9-9) Silage, (5-5) Silver Song, (7-7) Potent. Thane and Silver Song immediately took charge, leading into the straight. Greenore, who had been running sixth, took the lead a furlong from the post, and won by two lengths from The Grasper, who beat Thane by a nose. Time—l.B 2-5.
