HORTICULTURAL SHOW

, KAITAIA SOCIETY >d ifi A FINE DISPLAY. /. I? SUCCESSFUL OCCASION. The Kaitaia Horticultural Society’s annual show was held yesterday. The 5 weather was satisfactory and the show was most successful. The entries totalled nearly 600, and in a large num- , ber of classes the competition was very keen. The exhibits were tastec fully and effectively staged. The decorative section was one of the chief attractions, the entries showing highly artistic work, both in the adult and children’s classes. The cinerarias and poppies were much admired, because of the beauty of the colours and perfection of the blooms. The roses also were a fascinating study, particularly the whites, of which there were a 5 large number. The championship went to Mrs Bloomfield. The cut flowers made a beautiful show, the gladioli i being notable for their size and dis- ' tinctive colours. For originality in decorative work Mrs Verearner again ’ won the first prize with a bush scene, ’ while Miss. Farrimond was .first -for r originality in floral design. These two exhibits gained much favour with visitors. The vegetable section was good and gave a fair indication of | what caxx be grown in the North in the | early part of the yeax*. The cabbages ! were remarkable for size and there ! was a very good range of kitchen garden products. The work in connection with the show was well organised. Mrs W. Geard, the president, and Mr W. H. Farrimond, secretary, had a band of competent stewards and others to assist them and everything went very smoothly. The following acted as stewards: Mesdames A. Wilkinson, Hammond, Rule, R. H. Matthews, A. Thompson, J. T. Clarke, P. Yendell, J. Ai’chibald, D. Barry, Torrie, F. Holder, Jameson, Hudson, Thornton and J. Paulson, and Messrs W. Dyer and A. W. Wilkinson.
