AID FOR FAMILIES.

FORCED TO QUIT GERMANY. HITLER DENOUNCED. (Received 9 a.m.) LONDON, November 8. . The Deputy Prime Minister of South Africa, General Smuts, attended a luncheon at which a sum of £SOOO Was subscribed for the benefit of German Jewish women and children. • ■ln the course of a speech, General Smuts said he remembered when German Jews were regarded as the flower of Judaism among the most cultured people in the world. It was appalling to think that human beings were not to be free to develop on their own lines, but were to be moulded by force into a certain type, that they were not to develop in the image of God, but in the image of a man who ought to be in a mental asylum. The,speaker said; “I do not-want,to criticise Germany as a nation. She is as much sinned against as sinning. We must care for the wreckage.”
