EXCHANGE OF TEACHERS
NEW REGULATIONS

Regulations relating to the exchange of New Zealand teachers with teachers from andther part of the British Empire, are contained in the Gazette issued last night. The regulations provide that the Education Department of New Zealand shall act as the intermediary to effect exchanges. Exchange shall be for a period of one year, exclusive of travelling time, but in special circumstances further leave without pay may be granted. New Zealand teachers selected for exchange will be required to undertake to return to the New Zealand education service for a period of at least three years. No applicant will be accepted for exchange who is not 25 years of age, or who has less than five years’ teaching experience, exclusive of service as a probationer or student, or is over 45 years of age. Education authorities abroad will be asked to submit reports on the character of the work done by New Zealand teachers. On their return the New Zealand teachers will be required to furnish the Director of Education with a report on their work and experiences abroad.
