SEVERAL CLOUDBURSTS

LIGHTNING KILLS TWO MEN,

(Received 1 p.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day.

During a storm which swept the Horsham district,' lightning struck and killed Johann Gross, 50, and a man named Voight, about 30, arid seriously injured a third man, sheltering under a tree.

Terrific thunderstorms swept the Mallee and Wimmera districts. There were cloudbursts at several places and crops were flattened and houses and shops flooded. Four women and two children were injured by flying iron and glass. An Adelaide message reports torrential rain, which flooded tjie city and suburbs. Creeks from the hills overflowed and low-lying suburbs v/ere inundated. In the Soldiers’ Home at Wayvillc water is from two to three feet deep.

A cyclonic storm of great severity swept Victoria, doing heavy damage to crops and''properties and causing two deaths.

Frederick Serpell, a farmer, aged 36, died from injuries when the storm swept his house away at Bolton. He and his wife and two sons were preparing to retire when the house was lifted bodily. Wreckage was strewn for nearly 100 yards, from the front of the house. Mr Serpell was found 50 yards away. His wife and children suffered minor injuries.

The home of Mrs James Hogan at Heyward was completely wrecked. She had no chance of escaping.
