COMPANIES’ RECEIVER
N.S.W. BILL PASSED. “PRICE OF SILENCE.” (Received 9 a.m.) SYDNEY, November 6. The Legislative Council tonight passed the Companies Receiver and Manager Bill, the Labour group offering no opposition. However, the Hon. J. Martin (Labour) criticised the Government’s “indecent haste” in rushing the measure through. He suggested there must have been something sinister behind the Attor-ney-General’s action last week when appealing personally 'to the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Lang, to offer no opposition. He said apparently financial interests 'behind the Government were anxious to suppress the McArthur Group. Mr Martin added that he was quite sure there would have been plenty of money available as the price of Labour’s silence in connection with this measure, The Attorney-General, the Hon, S, Manning, hotly repudiated the suggestion.
