AGE OF WHISKY
MUST BE FIVE YEARS LFrom Our Parliamentary ,• Special ] ■ WELLINGTON, This Day. Not only has the school entry age been raised by the Government, but the whisky entering age has been extended. Legislative provision to this effect is contained in a new clause 'which was introduced in the House~of; Representatives, and Customs Acts dealing with the subject are to -be altered accordingly. . The clause will--not get to the discussion stage,....put,, r will be dealt with to-night. The Minister of Finance, Mr. explained briefly the clause proposed,, v to increase whisky maturity from three to five years. The principal operative , section,, which comes into force oh May 1,. 1935* lays down that no . spirits' (brandy', whisky or rum) are to be delivered from the control of the Customs un- '. less the Comptroller of Customs . is.;'; satisfied that the spirit has been,.;, matured by storage in wood for not’ less than five years. Permission-is "t 6 . be given to the Comptroller to .release". spirits which have been, maturing -.for less than five years if he is satisfied that' they ate intended for usp iri the.
