HIGH-GRADE CONCERT

Another concert of high merit, and I one which attracted a large attendance Ito the Plaza Theatre last evening, I was presented by George Bingon and j his Stage Band and assisting artists. ! r fhe theatre was packed, many being 1 refused admission. The takings, which | amounted to £l7 18/4, were stated to ! be a record for such an entertainment lin Whangarei. All the profits will be equally divided between the Hospital Comforts Club and the St. John Ambulance. At an interval in the proceedings, Dr. S. H. Ward, on behalf of the Citizens’ Committee and St. John Ambulance thanked the public for their support. He was glad to see such a large number present and hoped everyone would come again next time. The organisation was all attended to by Mr George Bingon. and assistance by the artists and others was entirely voluntary. The programme, in which encores were numerous, was as follows:—Stage Band, “Good Morning Glory” and | “The Old Spinning Wheel”; Mrs Stevj enson, vocalist, “Waiata Poi,” encore, “Happy Song”; Mr George Tupp (flautist), “The Wind,” encore “Shadow Dance”; Stage Band, “Little Women” and “Play to Me Gipsy”; Mr Jack Wilkinson, “A Straight Banana,” encores, “Twice One Are Two,” “My Word You Do Look Queer”; Miss Edna Langmuir (musical monologue), “Christmas Bells,” encore “How They Were Caught”; Stage Band, “Cherie,” i “The Last Round-Up”; Mrs Blanshard and Mrs Crawford (vocal duet), “Arise, O Sun,” encore “Thank God , For a Garden”; Stage Band. “The Man i On The Flying Trapeze,” “I Love The Moon”; Messrs Hartley Higgott (banjo), Len Hall (guitar) and Les Dickinson (banjo), instrumental trio; Stage Band, “Pettin’ In the Park,” “Good-night, Lovely Little Lady” and “Love, Life and Laughter.”
