WEEKLY SUMMARY. STERLING EXCHANGE INCREASE. The Reserve Bank returns for the week ended October 8, gazetted last night, shows a statement balanced at £29,405,767, or £1,235,466 less than last week. The principal movement in the liability has been a decrease of £1,858,174 in.the deposits of the trading banks. State deposits have increased by £613,911. Other changes are nominal. On the assets side, sterling exchange lias increased, £1,233,861, by far the largest movement in any week since the Reserve Bank opened. The gold holding, after the fall of £500,000 shown in last week’s return, remains without further change. The statement, with variations compared with previous weeks, is as follows: Liabilities.
