SUMMER REUNION

WHANGAREI HIGH SCHOOL PAST AND PRESENT PUPILS. SPORTING EVENTS. The summer reunion of past and present pupils of the Whangarei High School was held yesterday afternoon, when sporting teams attended the function. School were successful in cricket, rifle shooting and tennis. The visitors were entertained to afternoon tea at the boys’ hostel.

DISILLUSIONED. 'old boys capitulate. Dull play at the opening of the cricket match was succeeded by plenty of bright incident and a sporting finish. When Old Boys had demonstrated how much they had forgotten of the game, and were fighting uphill, Lacey stayed to play a valuable, if unenterprising innings. An ex-captain of the first eleven, Bruce Marshall, hit with great effect, landing four fours and two sixers. The early School batsmen were equally brisk, Hawkes collecting con-secutive-boundaries off the first three balls of Dunn’s first over. Later Falvey and B. Wilson cracked on the pace, although all were at sea occasionally when facing E. Collins, who turned the ball well on a dead wicket. Extra time was claimed, and Old Boys finally left the field imagining that they still had one*run to spare. A check of the score-book, however, disclosed otherwise, as the following tally shows:— Old Boys. H. G. Carruth, b Webster 0 E. E, Harrison, b Webster 11 R. J. Dunn, b R. Wilson 13 W. E.
