PIGS IN DEMAND
Walter Wakelin reports holding his usual monthly sales at Whakapara and Maungatapere, and mid-month sale at Kamo during the week. Good yardings came forward and, prices showed a good increase all round. The advertised number of pigs came forward at Kamo and sold exceptionally well to a full bench of buyers. Dairy stock came forward in large numbers, and showed a decided improvement.
Whakapara, Monday.—Fat cows and heifers, £2 to £2 15/; store cows, £1 to £2 5/; dairy heifers, £2 to £4; dairy cows, £2 to £4 5/; good Short - hoi’n dairy cows, £2 17/6 to £4 5/; yearling Jersey heifers, £1 5/; light fat steers, £5 18/; boner cows, 8/ to 12/; store pigs, £1 5/9; slips, £1; small weaners, 9/.
Kamo, Wednesday.—Fat cows and heifers, £3 10/ to £5; light cows, £2 to £3; store cows, £1 to £1 18/; cows and calves, £1 6/ to £llO/; yearling Jersey heifers, 17/ to £1 1/6; 2-year-old Jersey steers, £2; 18-months Shorthorn heifers, £1 18/; Jersey bulls, £1 5/ to £2 10/; good dairy cows, £3 to £4 5/; best Jersey heifers, £3 to £4; small and backward heifers, £1 5/ to £2 12/6.
Pigs.—Large stores, to £1 10/; good slips, to £1 4/6; best weaners, 16/3 to 18/9; smaller, 13/9 to 15/3; Berkshire boars, to 1J gns; breeding sows, to 4J gns.
Sheep.—Fat wethers, £1 5/ to £1 7/1; fat ewes, to £1 1/; good wether hoggets, 17/; store wethers, £1; m.s. hoggets, 15/.
