CHATHAM CUP FINAL
AUCKLAND THISTLE CHAMPIONS
(Special to “Northern Advocate.’’) WELLINGTON, This Day,
There was a great attendance al the Easin Reserve on Saturday afternoon to witness the Chatham Cup final—-the New Zealand Soccer club championship—between Christchurch and Auck - land Thistle teams. With speed and combination on the right wing the Canterbury side pressed the advantage which a freezing southerly gave them, but the early portion of the game was unusually quiet save for sudden flashes of combined play by both teams.
After a long-kicking bout. G. Walker followed up fast for Canterbury, and his perfect centre almost beat Gerrard. whoso effort to fist out was spoilt by Hie wind. Before ho could recover, Adam was on him, and bustled the ball into the net;. —Christchurch I; Auckland 0.
Throughout the second spell Auckland were a man short, the captain,
McCosh, having retired. However, a freshening wind came to Auckland’s aid and a long attack kept the southerners on the alert near the goal. It looked as if Auckland must equalise when Hislop got the ball, but A. Sutherland blocked him. At last, a longrange shot by Watson found the net, making the scores.—Christchurch IV Auckland 1. In the last ten minutes a. neat pass from Hislop to Woods gave the latter a chance to score the winning goat;, which he made cure of, the game end 4 ' ing:~ Auckland .2 Christchurch 1
