OHAEAWAI’S PAST SEASON

The next few weeks will see the end of the 1934 golf season at Ohaeawai. From all angles the season has been a very successful one, and next year players will have the convenience of their own clubhouse. All materials for the building have been acquired, and only the site remains to be chosen. The final stages of the club championships have now been reached. Next season promises even brighter prospects than this, from a membership point of view.

RAWENE AFFAIRS. The committee of the Rawene Golf Club met in the county hall last week to discuss matters in connection with the forthcoming president’s cup competitions, and the senior and junior championships. It was decided to commence both competitions next Sunday.

By scoring a comparatively easy win over A. J. Shaw, New Zealand open champion, and W. Campbell, exScottish professional, in an exhibition match at Lansdowne links yesterday, T. H. Horton and J. P. Hornbrook, two Masterton Kirk-Windeyer Cup representatives, again proved their ranking among leading amateurs of the Dominion. The latter won 5 and 4, the match being played over 36 holes and followed by a large gallery. Horton returned a score of 68 for the morning round, four under par, while only bad luck’ at the 17th in the afternoon slopped Hornbrook from breaking the course record of 67. The scores were: —Horton 68 and 73, Hornbrook 72 and 71, Campbell 74 and 71, Shaw 73 and 76.

The Australian women’s golf team, Mrs J. Robertson and Misses A. M. McLeod, C. Lascelles, J. Hammond, and L. Bailey, managed by Miss Austin, arrived today to > play against the New Zealand team for the Tasman Cup, and to compete in the New Zealand championship.
