CROSS-SOLENT SWIM

FINE FEAT BY CONNER.

(Received 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, September 3.

A New Zealand swimmer, Malcolm Conner, won the annual five miles cross-Solent race from Southsea to Ryde, in 2 hours 15 minutes, finishing half an hour ahead of the second competitor and beating the Channel swimmer Tcmmes’ last year’s time by a minute.

Conner said it was one of the coldest swims of his life, but a pleasant change not to be worried by sharks. He hoped to gain other English successes.
