SCHOOL CHAMPIONS
RUGBY AND BASKETBALL. The final games' of the season under the control of the Mangonui Primary Schools Rugby Union, were played on Saturday, and by beating Ahipara, Kaitaia won the championship, with Ahipara and Awanui tying for second place. The basketball competition played in conjunction with the football, fell to Ahipara, who went through the season unbeaten. The inauguration of competitive football in the schools was one of the best moves ever made in the. interests of the game in the Far North, and the various headmasters are to be congratulated on the interest they take in the games and' l the time they devoted to the fostering of a spirit of enthusiasm in the children under their control. HOKIANGA RIVALRY The Broadwood and Tutekehua schools’ football and basketball teams had a jolly afternoon when the former visited Tutekehua on Friday. The girls’ basketball game was controlled by Miss J. Mays, Tutekehua winning by 10—5, though the game was more even than the score denotes. The boys had a stoutly contested game, but the slight advantage in size and weight told in favour of the home team, who won 15 —0. For Broadwood, McGrath and J. Gray showed up well, and for Tutekehua, M. .Tcllick and R. Taffard played good games. The referee was Mr Houlihan.
