GETTING TOGETHER
OLD PUPILS AND SCHOOL SPORTS TEAM'S ENTERTAINED Every effort is being made to gain closer , union between the Whangarei High School Old Pupils’ Association and the present pupils of the school. Realising the benefit of this, the association last night entertained members of the High School sports teams. The occasion was held in the Castilian Ballroom, and was successful from every point of view. In a table tennis tournament, Old Pupils gained the day by 24 points to Hi. Many friendly games were played, and, as the evening wore on, great hilarity was induced by puff and progressive pingpong. At puff ping-pong, members of the school first fifteen proved that having (1 bellows to mend” is not likely when they play at New Plymouth.
The courtesy of the Whangarei Table Tennis Club in granting use of the tables and equipment was much appreciated. To those who were not engaged at the tables, dancing was available.
Sixty sat down to a supper replete with good things. On behalf of the School teams, D. Davidson, head boy, in an appropriate speech, thanked the association for their hospitality. Iu reply, the president of the association, Mr D, W. Baird, hoped that the happy function would be the forerunner of many. The Old Pupils joined in wishing the School first fifteen the best of luck in the secondary school Rugby tournament at Now Plymouth. At 10..‘10 the gathering sang “Auld Lang Sync.”
