ON ELLERSLIE TRACKS LOED VAL MOVES NICELY. CHIEF COOK IMPROVING. (Special to “Nortnern Advocate.") AUCKLAND, This Day. The weather was line for training at Ellerslie this morning, but a fog which did nOt lift , until nearly 10 o’clock interfered considerably with timing. No, 3 grass track was open, the poles being 10 foet out from the rails, and the going was a shade on the heavy side. There was not a great deal of fast work, and a number of horses wore allotted strong exorcise on the sand track. No. 3 Grass. Imamiut was first out and bit out freely while running half a mile, but sko could not be timed. Kelly and On Parade worked over a similar distance, but they could not be timed either. Lord Val finished several lengths in front of Desert Star at conclusion of six furlongs in L 22 2-5. Lord Val went very nicely throughout and his effort was the best of the morning over the distance. Versant completed a round in 1.51) ]-5, covering his last six furlongs in 1.25 4-5. Zone Grey, after trotting once round on the sand, was sent six furlongs with Spearcourt, and they completed the distance in 1.27 3-5, Gay Broney Avas timed to run six furlongs in 1.29 3-5, but Avas not doing his best at any part of it. Court Haven did strong work over about a mile and a half, covering the middle six furlongs in 1.28 2-5. JoAvelled Girdle and Barograph finished several lengths in front of Hawthorn at the conclusion of six furlongs, run in 1.24 2-5. The former Avorked 'better than usual, but Huavthorn Avas not unduly bustled. The Broker and Gay Sol Averc sent half a mile, the former finishing In front, but no time could be taken.

Shon Latour strode OA r er a round in 1.54, coA'oring his last six furlongs in 1.29. •Chief Cook was allotted a round, but. had no pace on till the last three furlongs, AA’hieh he covered in 39 l-ss. There was little betAveen them at the finish.
