HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY. THE ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Kaitaia Horticultural Society was held in Foster’s Rooms on Friday afternoon, Mrs W. Geard, the president, presided over a fair attendance. The report and balance sheet were considered highly satisfactory. It was shown that though the charge for admission had been reduced from 2/ to 1/, the last exhibition had shown a profit of about £l2, compared with £1 the pre vious year, and no profit at all the year before that. Members expressed great satisfaction with the position disclosed. The following officers were elected: President. Mrs W. Geard; vice-presi-dents, Mrs R., Matthews and Mrs A. Wilkinson; secretary,Mr W. Farriraond; treasurer, Mr E. Mayhill; executive committee, Mesdames ■ Geard, Bloomfield, F. Holder, J. Thornton, Jameson, John Archibald' and Messrs. W. Dyer, G. Wilkinson, A. Wilkinson, Rev. Nicholas, and secretary and treasurer; auditor, Mr J, L. Hester, County representatives were appointed as follows: —Mangonui, Miss B, Houston; Omni, Mesdames Garton, Barriball and Forsyth; Fairburn-Kai-aka, Mrs Metcalf and Miss Trott; Victoria Valley, Mesdames C. White and C, Peterson; Pukepoto, Mesdames W r . Masters, T. Grade, and J, Ryan; Takahue, Mrs Masters; Awanui, Mesdames Subritzky, T. J. Fleming and T. MeI Carthy; Pamapuria, Mr and Mrs Heal; ilerekino, Mrs Vickers. A special vote of thanks was passed
to Mrs Northwood for her work as secretary to the society for. twelve years, a position from which she was retiring. Mrs Northwood was elected a life member, in recognition of her past services. Votes of thanks were also passed to the retiring secretary, Mr J. F. Carolan, and Mrs Vercamer. New members elected at the meeting were: Mesdames P. Yendell, A. Thompson, D. R. Hudson, D. Archibald, junr., and M. Hammond. Catholic Church Dance. A dance under the aegis of the Catholic Church attracted a record crowd to the A. & P. Hall last . week. The , interior had been tastefully decorated in balloons and streamers by an energetic dance committee. Extras were played by Mrs It. Stitt and Mr C. Harrison, The Monte Carlo went to Airs C. Murdoch and Air D. Alarcroft, and Aliss C. Lunjevich and Mr J. Bakalich. A statue waltz'was won by Aliss U. Albrighton* and Air A. Rae. A dainty supper was a popular feature of the evening. Air AI. Thornell proved a capable AI.C. Music Examinations. Kaitaia has been made a centre for the examinations under the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Alusic, London, and the first examination will be by Air Gordon Bryan at Airs King s studio, Archibald’s buildings, next Saturday, when a large number of pupils will be sitting. Air Lloyd Peace has been appointed secretary for the local centre.
