MACARTHY TRUST

FURTHER ALLOCATIONS. CHARITIES AND EDUCATION. (Per Press Association.—Copyright.) WELLINGTON, This Day. ' The board of governors of the T. G. Macarthy Trust, at its annual meeting yesterday, allocated £1.1,130 to various charitable, religious and educational organisations in the Wellington province, bringing the total distribution since 1013, when the first allocation was made, to £200,807. Applications ■numbered 157, compared with .150 last year, and covered a wide range of objects concerned with charity and education. Last year’s allocation was £10,145. The Public Trustee .advised that difficulties were still being experienced in the administration of the trust owing to the existing economic conditions and the compulsory reduction in rent and interest and increased taxation, but notwithstanding these matters it was pleasing to report that the sum of £9OOO would be available for distribution. During Mrs. Macarthy Reid’s lifetime only one-half of the residuary income was distributed to charities. In view of her death, the whole income, as from July 1, .1934, will now bo available for this purpose, and consequently there will be a Larger sum at the disposal of the Board of Governors for distribution next year.. In view, however, of the a onto distress still existing, the board resolved to increase the .amount to be distributed this year to £11,130. The principal grants arc: — ..
