James Tirihi pleaded guilty in the Police ‘Court today to a. charge of converting a car, the property of Mr Neilson, of Waioeka Road, to his own use. Sergeant Miller said accused was employed by Mr Neilson, who on Monday found the car badly damaged. The running board and radiator had been crushed. Accused said he would pay for the damage. Sergea'nt Miller said someone else had been with accused, as the car had been pushed out on the road. Accused was recently sentenced for entering a. girl’s room. Accused told the presiding Justices that he had no license. He could drivu a little. There was nobody [with him in the car, which lie drove himself. The car hit a cow at the junction of the AVaioeka and Otara roads. Sergeant. Miller said that when the car was examined no sign of hair was seen. It appeared as if the car had run into sand. The Justices said they could not bclive accused’s story. Obviously,/ ho was sheltering some one, but he would have to take the whole blame. He would receive the maximum penalty unless he told the truth. Accused was sentenced to three months’ hard labour in Mt. Eden Gaol. ■Sergeant Miller said there was no chance of Mr Neilson recovering the damage to the car.
