DEBATING SOCIETY DISCUSSION. There was. an oven division at the Whangarei Debating Society’s meeting last night, when the subject “That the Freedom of the Press Should be Restricted” was discussed. The affirmative was led by Mr. A. Hooper, with Mr. J. Hannah as a supporter, and the negative was argued by Mr. J. A. Inkster, supported bv Mr. E. H. Steele. A number of members spoke briefly in support of either side before the vote was taken Prior to the debate, the usual instructional session -was held, the paper for the evening being read by Mr. I?. Noel Johnson.
