CLERK OF PARLIAMENTS
LATE MR. KANE’S SUCCESSOR (Per Press Association.—Conyrlglit.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The appointment of the Clerk Assistant of the Legislative Council, Mr C, M. Bothamley, to the position of Clerk of Parliaments and Clerk of the Legislative Council, in succession to the late Mr E. W, Kano, was announced by the Loader of the Legislative Council, the Hon. R. Masters, after a meeting of the Cabinet last evening. Mr. Bothamley, who was born in Wellington in IS9I, is a son of the) Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod, Mr, A. 11. Bothamley, T.S.O. After completing his education at Wellington College, Mr. Bothamley began work with W. 0. Turnbull and Company. He later joined the firm of Levin and Company, Ltd. He enlisted for active service in the New Zealand Expeditionary Forces, but after some time in camp he was .discharged as unfit because of a football injury. Mr Bothamley joined the staff of the House of Representatives as Commit-1 tee Clerk in 1010 and later was ap-[ pointed Committee Clerk to the Legis-j lative Council.
In 1921 he was appointed Second Clerk Assistant, and in ■ 1931 was promoted to the position of Deputy Clerk of Parliament, Clerk Assistant of the Council and deputy examiner of petitions for private bills. Mr Bothamley has acted as honorary secretary to the Empire Parliamentary Association since the death of Mr A.- F. Lowe in 1929,
