YOUNG GIRL KILLED
THREE PERSONS INJURED
CRASH AT INTERSECTION
CARS IN COLLISION
(Special to “Northern Advocate.”) AUCKLAND, This Day
A distressing accident occurred yesterday afternoon at the* intersection of Orakci and Shaw Roads, when two motpr earfj collided and a young girl received .fatal injuries, while three other persons wore injured. The victims are:— KILLED Ruth Beatrice Warburton, aged 8, daughter of Mr. Egbert Reuben W arburtoii, of Hawefa Road, Kohimarama. driver of one of the ears. INJURED Mrs. Annie Gertrude Warburton, wife of-Mr. Warburton, injuries to the head and left arm. Condition fairly serious. Graham Warburton, son, aged 11, dislocated shoulder,' cuts and abrasions. Condition not serious. ' Valerie Woolley, aged 5, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Woolley, of Palmer Crescent, Kohimarama, minor cuts and abrasions. Mr. 'Warburton escaped uninjured, as did: the driver of e the other car, Mr. Douglas Campbell Purdie, of Manakau Road, ’ Parnell. Accompanying Mr. Purdie was Mr. R. A. Singer, of Grafton Road, who. suffered a cut on the left hand, for which he received first aid treatment.
Ruth- AVarburton died shortly after being admitted to the Auckland Hospital with extensive head injuries. Valbric' Woolley was treated at the casualty ward and was then able to proceed home.
The accident occurred when Mr. AVarburton was driving his family, accompanied by the little girl Woolley, home from 'church. The car was proceeding along Orakci Road, The car driven by Mr. Purdie was proceeding along Shaw Road from the direction of Auckland. ' '
After the'collision Mr, Warburton’s car mounted a bank and came to rest with the radiator against a fence post. The vehielo was extensively damaged. The : bodywork was smashed and the left front tyre was stripped from the rim.
«. Mr,-Purdie’s ear was not extensively damaged, although some of the metal work in front was crushed.
Residents in the vicinity rendered assistance until the arrival of two ambulances from the headquarters of the St. John Ambulance Brigade, The fatally injured child was placed in one ambulance and. rushed immediately to the hospital, Mrs. Warburton and the other two children following in the second ambulance,-.
