SCHOONER ASHORE

DRIVEN ON ROCKS. ASSISTANCE SENT. (Special to "Northern Advocate.") AUCKLAND, This Day. During the storm on Friday evening the small auxiliary schooner Motiti wan' blown ashort on Saddle Island, Mahurangi Hoads, and was still aground last night. The auxiliary schooner Cornation has loft Auckland lo attempt to tow the stranded vessel afloat.

The Motiti loft Warkworth for Auckland on Friday afternoon and when she cleared the mouth of the Mahurangi River she encountered a severe south-easterly gale and a. very rough sea. The weather was thick and dirty, the wind blowing in violent squalls, accompanied by heavy rain. Beset by the strong winds and the swift tide, the vessel was unable to make headway, and drifted toward Saddle Island. About S o’clock the same night she was caught by a. heavy sea and thrown on to the rocks on the north-east portion of the island.

Efforts' to refloat the vessel were made by means of anchors and ropes, but were unsuccessful. The Motiti is a wooden vessel of 40 tons and was built at Auckland in ISO 7. She is owned by A; (I. Frankham, Ltd. Her former name was Oban, She is 1 continually engaged in the Auckland-Warkworth trade.
