MILLION HOUSES
WEEKLY RENTAL 10/VAST PLAN FOR BRITAIN, EXPENDITURE OF £400,000,000. (British Official Wireless.) (Received 9 a.m.) RUGBY, May 17. A scheme involving an expenditure of £400,000,000 for the provision of 1,000,000 houses to bo let at rental-' not to exceed 30/ a week, is recommended in. an interim report issued by the National Housing Committee, of which Lord Annilrce is chairman.
The creation, under the Ministry of Health, of a. National Housing Commission is proposed, with power to raise money to finance house programmes, in particular by issue of national housing stock. Local authorities or public utility societies would own and manage Hie houses. It is recommended, also, that; one of the duties of the commission would be to stimulate the formation of those societies and the creation of a central council to exercise general control over them.
