REPORTED CRASH
NO TRACE OF PLANE SEARCH TO CONTINUE (Per Press Association.—Copyright.) INVERCARCILL, This Pay. .Mystery still surrounds the reported crash of an aeroplane in mountainous country near Skippers, 20 miles from Queenstown. Oh Rial inquiries have been made from aerodromes all over the Dominion, but all machines can be accounted for. Further, it is considered unlikely that, a pilot would undertake a flight over such high and dangerous country in the stormy conditions prevailing during the past lew days. Nevertheless, opinion near where the aeroplane is stated to have been seen appeal's to be that a crash actually did occur, although the possibility of an optical illusion produced by clouds has been suggested.
Tlie Invercargill police communicated with tin' postmaster at Long Gully yesterday morning, and ho .stated that ho was satisfied that an aeroplane had actually boon scon and ho proposed assisting in the search.
A report from Queenstown last evening stated that the search party had returned, but* found no trace of an aeroplane. The search was hampered by heavy falls of snow and will be continued today.
