APPALLING HAVOC
ASSAM TORNADO OVER TWO HUNDRED DEAD. VILLAGES DEAfOLTSHED. (United Press Association— By Electric Telegra pb.—Copyrigli (,) (Received 9 a.m.) CALCUTTA, Atay 5. Details have reached Calcuta of appalling havoc caused by the tornado in the Sylhet district, Assam, on April 30. So far more Ilian 500 deaths have been reported and several hundreds of people are missing. Five hundred were injured and score’, of villages were destroyed, thousands of inhabitants being homeless. It is feared that the death roll will be much heavier in remote districts, as scores of human bodies and dead animals are floating daily down the River •Surma, where many fishing (leers and ferry boats wore overwhelmed. Relief parlies have been senl to the affected areas.
