MARUA
A “bring-and-buy” afternoon in aid of the Presbyterian. Church funds was held in the local hall on Thursday. The organising ladies arc to be congratulated on the success achieved, for although there was not a very large attendance the funds will benefit to the extent of £4 3/(i. The bran tub provided for the children caused much amusement. A dainty afternoon tea concluded the proceedings.
TENNIS.
An interesting match was played on Saturday, when two teams, picked respectively by the captain, I. Neale, and the vice-captain, J. Brewer, conteoted. As there were a large number of games to be played, a commencement was made at 10.30. Results are as follows, those comprising the captain’s team being mentioned first in each instance. The captain’s team gained 16 sets and 123 games and the vice-captain’s team gained 8 set* and 108 games.
PERSONAL.
Mr. and Mrs. Q. Austin and family have returned to take up residence in this district, having leased their Maunu holding. It is pleasing to note that Nelson Ross, who has been absent from school since the holidays on account of illhealth, is making satisfactory progress.
