INCREASED IMPORTS

RESTRICTIONS INEVITABLE. WHEN AGREEMENTS EXPIRE. (Received 1 p.m.) LONDON, March 10. In the House of Commons, in reply to Mr W. T. Shaw (Conservative — Forfar) and Mr G. Lamber (National Liberal-Devon) in relation to increased imports of Dominion frozen beef, butter and choose, and what steps were being taken to protect the home producers, Mr Elliot, Minister of Agriculture, said that the largest supplies of Empire beef at present were not subject to regulations. Foreigners had hitherto adhered closely to their allocations. The Government was in continuous communication with the Dominions on the whole agricultural position, and when the matter was reconsidered it would bo quite unprejudiced, except as far i as regarded' the relations entered into. When the present, agreements ended, the home producers would have first preference, and lie thought the Dominions would bo in agreement with that procedure.
