BUTTER PRODUCTION. PROPOSED SUBSIDY. ALTERNATIVE SUGGESTION. ft (Per Press Association.—Copyright.) STRATFORD, This Day. - Speaking in opposition to the suggestion of a.-butter-subsidy, Mr W. .1. Poison, M.P., president of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, said the alternative was to secure now markets at sacrifice prices. “It may be possible to make arrangements with Australia to dump given percentages of outputs in certain non-dairying countries, and to subsidise the dairy farmers to the extent of the difference between those prices and the London parity for tint proportion of the product which ms dumped. It may even be possible o adopt the new Australian stabilisatiOl plan in New Zealand, and secure a local price commensurate with the red value of our produce in Great Britah. ‘'After taking all the charges inti account, the only thing that is no possible is a direct subsidy to the ill dustry,” said Mr Poison. Both markets quiet. GOOD SEASON. SUPPLY KEEPS UP. Owing to the favourable season, the supply of cream to the Port Albert Co-operative Dairy Company is holding up well. For butterfat supplied during February this factory will pay out at the rate of 6d per lb for superfine quality, with the usual deductions for the other grades. Owing to the satisfactory prices being paid for pork this season, latge numbers of pigs have been fattened this year, and this sideline has been of . .groat assistance to the dairy farmers in this district, HIKURANGI FACTORY. FEBRUARY PAY-OUT. The Hikurangi Dairy Company tomorrow will make an advance payment to suppliers at the rate of 8d per lb superfine, and 74d per lb standard, for February. These advances will absorb £11,707, as against £11,600 advanced for the corresponding month for last year, when advances wore made on the same basis. ... '■ Production for the present nionth isy being well maifitaihed and everything points to good autumn : returns. Supplies are now falling off, but no more noticeable now than in previous seasons.
