WHANGAREI CHAMPIONSHIPS. FINALITY APPROA CHINO. OOWPER’S TEAM IN FINAL. On the Whangarci Bowling Club’s greens on Saturday afternoon, in perfect weather, the final .of the Saturday section, of the full rink competition was played between the following teams: —Baird, Dr. Cook, Piggott, Oowpcr, and J. Stewart, Peat, G. If. Morrish, and W. Stewart, and resulted in a win for the former by 27 to 10. The scores were not an indication of the play, as many heads were keenly contested. Cowper, skip of the wanning team, was the outstanding player of the match. His team will play the wanning team of the Thursday section, Evans, Marshall, Dr. Good and Donaldson. In the championship singles, England Id boat Donaldson 13; Morrish 22 beat Courtney 9. Owing to the tournament at Portland, there was a smaller attendance than usual on the greens, which played very fast. i A friendly game which evoked some interest was the final of three test matches between teams skipped by P. H. Allan and B. Miller. Hitherto each team had been successful oh one occasion. On Saturday, Atkins, Poseman, G. Morrison and Allan 24 defeated Howie, Rae, Eeeles and Miller 13. Portland Tourney. The Portland Club held a successful full rink tournament on Saturday afternoon, 12 teams competing. Three rounds were played, resulting in the following teams tying with three wins each:; —Roberta, Marwick, Wilding, Whit el aw (Whangarei); Surman, Blanshard, McNaughton, and Grabble (Kensington). The play-off of 11 heads resulted in a win for Whitelaw’s team by 20 to 7'.
