WEEK-END ACCIDENTS
ACCIDENT WHILE DIVING. GRAVE INJURIES TO NECK. (Special to “Northern. Advocate.”) AUCKLAND, This Day. (jrave injuries to the neck was re- : ceived by a single man, Mr Clive Lord, aged 33, as a result of a bath ing accident shortily before noon yesterday at Motuihi Island, where he had gone with a party of excursionists. Mr Lord, who lives at Devonport, had been swimming from a launch not far from the shore, and he climbed on to the vessel to dive. He plunged into shallow water, his head striking the seabed. He was not rendered unconscious, but it was quickly seen tha* he was badly hurt, and he was instantly taken to the shore. He was admitted to the Auckland Hospital at 4.45 p.m. It had not been deter-, mined at a late hour whether Mv Lord had suffered a fracture of the neck or a dislocation, and his condition was described as critical. Mrs E. S. Tremaine, of Ruatangata, is a sister of Mr Lord, and she left for Auckland by the express this morning. ' UNFORTUNATE COINCIDENCE. FATHER AND SON HURT. (Special to “Northern Advocate.”) AUCKLAND, This Day. Misfortune visited a relief worker’s family by a strange coincidence on Saturday, when Mr Raymond Woodward, aged 3S, of Grey’s Avenue, and his son, Raymond, aged 7, suffered painful injuries iii separate accidents. Mr Woodward was riding a motor cycle along the Great South Road at Ramarama about 4 p.m., when the machine collided with a motor cycle which was travelling toward the city. He was thrown heavily on to tlie ground and suffered internal injuries and abrasions. Four hours after Mr Woodward was hurt, his small son was playing with a number of other children in Myer’s Park and fell fvom a swing. The child received a fracture of the left arm, and was taken to the hospital in a St. John ambulance. OARS IN COLLISION. Til REM MEN INJURED. (Per Press Association. —Copyright.) MARTON, This Day. Throe men were injured, one of them seriously, in a motor collisicfn at the intersection of the Pukopapa Road and the Bulls-Turakinu Road, near Marton. on Saturday. The cars involved were extensively damaged, Mr Holland Sour., of Greatford,, received injuries to his head and back, and was detained in hospital. The other injured men, Mr Holland, Junr., and Mr Pat Gibbons; were discharged from hospital after treatment. The collision occurred with another oar driven by Mr Tmlay Saunders, of Wanganui, who had his wife, with him as a ■passenger. Mr and Mrs Saunders, who wore proceeding to Wanganui, escaped with abrasions. !
