GIFT OF WHEAT
CANADIAN PLAN DROPPED. (Received 9.0 a.m.) OTTAWA, February 24. The Minister of Trade and Commerce, Mr. H. H. Stevens, stated in the House of Commons that the Government gave serious thought to a nroposal to donate 10,000,000 to 20,000,000 bushels of free wheat to China. However, it abandoned the plan when it was found there was slight chance of the grain reaching the people in the interior, as grasping trade associations in Shanghai were likely to take it themselves.
